Kristan Vermeulen
Kristan Vermeulen, known as Ms. Maine 2025, is an entrepreneur and passionate advocate for American craftsmanship. With a Master of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Marketing from Hood College, Kristan has dedicated her career to empowering small businesses and makers across the United States.
In 2022, Kristan was honored with the MaineBiz 40 Under 40 award for her significant community impact. She has appeared on national platforms, including Good Morning America and FOX Business News, to promote her initiative, Makers of the USA, which highlights artisans creating handmade products. Through this initiative, Kristan mentors aspiring entrepreneurs and fosters connections to help them build successful businesses.
Her commitment to supporting American-made products extends to her pageant appearances, where she exclusively wears domestic clothing. Kristan is also an advocate for nonprofits like the Maine Craft Association and the CEI Women’s Business Center, and she actively engages with young leaders by sharing her career journey with high school students.
Outside of her professional work, Kristan enjoys traveling with her children, Elayna and Krew, learning languages like French and Somali, and pursuing hobbies such as fly fishing and volleyball.
Kristan envisions expanding her platform into a national television show and turning Makers of the USA into a nonprofit to further amplify the voices of small businesses and celebrate the art of American craftsmanship.
Katie Zoe Brunelle
Meet Katie Zoe, founder of The Atrium Group.
Katie has lived in Portland, Maine since 2002, when she arrived fresh out of college with an education degree and a job serving Guinness at a popular Irish pub. After 14 years of a career in education, Katie made the switch to the entrepreneurial world, going through Cornell’s PR Strategies certification program.
Over the last decade, Katie has brought international media to her companies soon after launch. She’s been interviewed on The Cut, FOX, BBC, Forbes, and many more. She co-owned and operated a PR agency that worked with brands such as Marriott and won the Women’s Net Distinguished Business award in 2021. She worked in B2B product sales for a Fortune 500 company. As a business development and communications specialist she developed internal and external marketing campaigns that won several awards.
Katie offers business coaching by creating customized plans that help business owners breakthrough their current growth phase.
Founding The Atrium Group was an intentional melding of her favorite ways to work with clients. A unique blend of support and empowerment through coaching, education, and events that offer collaboration and community.
While the Irish pub that Katie worked at in 2002 has since closed, Katie remains in Portland with her partner Ally, two teenagers Liam and Nora, 5 pets (Stu, Finn, Cece, Pete, Princess & Poptart), and a plethora of nameless houseplants.
